Composers: Van Laer Freddy

Freddy Van Laer was born on the 6th of October in Aalst, Belgium. After the musicacademy he studied clarinet, saxophone, harmonie, contrepoint and fugue at the Royal Conservatory of Gent. He started his musical carreer at the Concert band of the Belgian Navy at Ostend and eight years later he passed his exam for clarinettist with the Great harmonyorchestra of the Belgian Guides in Brussels. He was also a professor of clarinet and saxophone at the musicacademies of Tielt and Roeselare. Freddy composed several works for organ, piano, chamber music, clarinet, saxophone and orchestral works. In 1985 he was awarded " The Provincial Price of East-Flanders" for his symphonic work "Arcana" for chamber orchestra.

Several of his works are published at Andel. Marche of the 6th Transmission Troups and Marche of the 9th Lancers are recorded on CD by the Orchestra of the Belgian Guides directed by Norbert Nozzy.
